I've never liked numbers

I've never liked numbers

The role of numbers and graphs in my profession and their emotional utility

Numbers have never appealed to me, I went to a scientific high school and found myself in recent years no longer tolerating their coldness. They never stirred big heart palpitations in me, not comparable to biology, literature, art and the 'sciences that study man in his complexity.

When I later chose university and found myself in the working world, numbers I used them and continue to use them for scientific research and statistics.

In that sense they come in handy, almost sympathetic to me when they confirm a theory.

But to numbers and graphs I never delegate absolute truth as may be the case for those who design houses, those who do math or those who install programs of various kinds.

In my sphere to do so would risk stamping fire by delegating, for example, being smart or not to an IQ or making a fully developing child fall into one category rather than another. TO SUMMARIZE HUMAN-COMPLEXITY IN A NUMERICAL SET IS TOO SIMPLE AND ALSO VERY DELETERIOUS.

But then why do I use graphs? I use them solely and exclusively to point out an improvement. To point out in this case how a child who came to therapy with several serious difficulties managed in 6 months of treatment to raise his curve by very, very much. To show the child that he can do it and to encourage the family, which often tends to forget where one starts and remain focused only on what is still not working. They are a great boost of confidence,self-esteem and strength!
