The 3E Method® (Ergotherapie, Education, and Re-Education) is my personal therapeutic approach, born from the integration of pediatric Ergotherapie and hand therapy. At its foundation lies a simple and powerful idea: every therapeutic journey is a learning process built through body, mind, and emotions.

Emotions influence the ability to learn, adapt, regulate behavior, and cope with pain. For this reason, the 3E Method focuses not on what we learn, but on how the learning process takes place, intervening exactly where the real possibility of change is born.

The method is based on two pillars recognized in scientific literature that explain why body, emotions, and behavior are always intertwined:

Warm Cognition:

emotions guide cognitive processes. Without emotional safety, there is no effective learning.

Muscle fascia as sensory organs:

every painful experience – physical or emotional – leaves traces in the body, modifying posture, muscle tone, and motor response.

From this, the 3E protocol is developed around three fundamental components:

  • Emotion

  • Reaction

  • Disturbing element (physical pain or dysfunctional behavior)

These components are then explored through different steps, accompanying the patient in discovering how a different reaction can modify neural circuits, promote new patterns, and support healing.

A therapeutic approach that places the person at the center

The distinctive feature of the 3E Method is that the therapist does not offer immediate solutions. Rather than imposing strategies, the therapist guides the patient through a metacognitive process in order to:

  • observe the ways in which the patient and the social context (family, friends, colleagues) react in critical situations

  • make the effect of those reactions on the disturbing element more conscious

  • develop autonomy by transforming dysfunctional behaviors and dynamics that hinder healing

By involving families and key figures in a co-regulation process that is fundamental for both children and adults, the 3E Method supports rehabilitation through a path of emotional and behavioral education and re-education, aiming to promote self-efficacy. The patient is not only at the center of therapeutic intervention, but becomes the active protagonist of their own healing process.
